Ignite! and Jay Shafer

I attended the Ignite! event that Jay Shafer spoke at in Sebastopol. It was a really fascinating night and I loved that each speaker only had 5 minutes. Since I live in a very "leftist" kinda part of the county anyway, I'm really curious what other Ignite! events were like and what the speakers talked about.
Still can't wait to get my hands on a tiny house!

Jay Shafer, Tiny Houses

From Jay Shafer of Tiny Houses..come see him in Sebastopol, CA on Wednesday, March 3, 2010...
Wee Shall Overcome

It has been nearly 14 years since I started, what I like to call, my aggressive pacifist's campaign to make the built world a smaller place. To date, my approach has been to pretty much just live my life in a small footprint and hope that my example might inspire others to do the same.

On Wednesday, March 3 at roughly 7:00pm at the Hopmonk Tavern in Sebastopol, CA. I'll be taking a somewhat more active approach. Ignite Sebastopol 3 is part of Global Ignite Week. Roughly a dozen speakers from the Bay Area will be given just twenty slides and five minutes each to present their subjects. I will be using my time to rip America's system of imposed excess a new body part. My distain for the building codes that restrict how small a house can be is no secret. On March 3rd  I'll be making my position all the more clear. All presentations will be recorded and posted for international viewing.

We're expecting a full house (~130 inside, and others watching the live feed to a screen in the outdoor Beer Garden), so get your tickets early.

Norm Darwish Photographs

I found two beautiful hand-colored, signed and numbered prints at a local thrift store yesterday. I looked up the artist and found his website. I encourage you to visit his online gallery. A very nice, soft, dreamy, cottage-y look. Here are some of my favorites. The first one is similar to one I found, it just didn't have the figure of the woman in it.

Happy New Year!

My resolutions this year for this blog?
  1. Finish my novel "Beadboard, Sea Glass and Driftwood" about restoring a Cape Cod Cottage and post excerpts here on Trilogy Cottages.

  2. Resurrect my Eco-Innovator of the Month.

  3. Photograph some great little cottages and bungalows here in Sebastopol and get some fun artsy pictures of them up here and on Etsy.

  4. Take some classes that will get me one step closer to my dream of restoring cottages. (I'm thinking of the Woodshop for Women at the Occidental Arts and Ecology Center in May)
